California-based SeedJunky voluntarily dropped its breach of contract lawsuit filed last summer against global cannabis brand Cookies, but the company’s attorney declined to comment on why the decision was made after a year of litigation.
According to court records, SeedJunky had a jury trial scheduled for June 2025 in the case, in which it claimed that Cookies and several of the company’s top officials – including Gilbert Milam Jr., the rapper known professionally as Berner – had stolen valuable cannabis genetics from SeedJunky to “unlawfully prop up” the Cookies brand.
But on July 29, SeedJunky filed a request for the case to be dismissed with prejudice – meaning it can’t be refiled – and gave no immediate reason for the move.
A March 25 court filing from SeedJunky said, “The parties are in the process of attempting to negotiate a stipulated protective order but are potentially at an impasse with respect to the same,” but a formal settlement was never submitted to the court for approval.
Cookies has weathered a string of similar lawsuits alleging bad faith dealing, and it still has at least two more active lawsuits pending against it:
- One filed in April last year by BR CO I LLC and Nedco I LLC.
- Another from Red Tech Holdings and Gron Ventures Fund filed in July 2023.
Both of those lawsuits allege serious misconduct by Cookies such as threats of violence, illegal kickbacks, and more.
The Red Tech Holdings case is slated for private arbitration on Aug. 26 and a status conference hearing with the judge in November, while the earlier suit is scheduled for a status conference hearing in December, according to court records.
